Krasnoyarsk team wins the first prize of BIT Siberia 2009

On April 30 there were selected the winners of the Siberian business plan competition “Business of Innovative Technologies in Siberia 2009”. 14 teams from Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Tomsk and Omsk participated in the Final. Such an extensive geography makes the competition a truly all-Siberian one, while the support from its general sponsor – Russian Venture Company – means that it is not only interesting for those who reside in the Siberian Federal District.

The winner is the Proverim.com project (Krasnoyarsk). The project is an online school grade book system which implements a know-how technology of academic progress data collection to facilitate interaction of schools and schoolchildren’s parents. The system makes the data available for the parents via text messages, the project’s website or urban telephone network.

The first runner-up is the Carbonic project (Barnaul). The team has presented their unique device for prevention and treatment of circulatory system diseases. The principle of action is enhancing carbon dioxide concentration and reducing oxygen concentration in alveolar air and blood, and maintaining their required level.

The second runner-up is a Tomsk team with their project “Development and production of customized microchips for control over mechatronic modules of robotic systems”. The idea is to develop a special microprocessor with integrated software (the so-called “microchip”) for mechatronic modules and electric motors which can be used in a variety of mechanisms: printers and plotters, robotic machines, robotized processing lines, NC machine tools, pumps and fans, home and car automation systems etc. The microchip is an integral microcircuit which can control and synchronize electric motors of various types.

The first prize is 250 000 rubles, the second and third prizes are 75 000 rubles each. The prizes will be delivered in the following manner: 70% in form of immediately available funds and 30% in form of services. Moreover, as agreed upon with FASIE, the winners will have a chance to participate in the U.M.N.I.K. program and win 400 000 rubles.

The Audience Choice award was given to the project “FeaturesBox: customer feedback processing system for software developing companies”.

Furthermore, the “Automated security and energy control system” project was awarded with the special prize from the TUSUR Alumni Association. Representing the Association, Alexander Uvarov has presented the team with a participation grant for the Annual Investment Conference SVOD (Silicon Valley Open Doors), which will be held in Novebmer 2009 in the Silicon Valley, USA.

Success of the Krasnoyarsk team has not only demonstrated that there is a great number of good projects across the Siberia, but also made it possible to talk about holding the final of BIT Siberia 2010 in Krasnoyarsk.

The winners of BIT Siberia have automatically qualified for the semifinal of the Russia-wide BIT competition. Now they have the chance to qualify for the final and present their projects to representatives of major Russian and foreign venture funds and companies.

The judiciary was formed by representatives of Tomsk Oblast Government and the City Government, CEOs of innovative businesses from Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Tomsk, financial companies and funds, with over 30 judges participating. The judges did a good job in choosing the best of 14 projects. The projects represented a wide range of spheres and were of very different development stages. However, it only roused the curiosity for it was absolutely impossible to try to predict the judges’ choice.

The projects were thoroughly prepared and well-presented.

The BIT Siberia Final is only a beginning. It will be the starting point for innovation leader – the teams whose ideas will once bloom into solid businesses.
