Tomsk project qualifies for the Final of BIT 2009

Today results of judiciary voting in the Russia-wide Business of Innovative Technologies competition were announced. Thus was determined the list of finalists.

A team from Tomsk with their project “Development and production of customized microchip for control over mechatronic modules of robotic systems” (leader – Nikolay Gusev, associate professor from the department of electric drives and electric equipment of Tomsk Polytechnic University) has become one of the finalists.

There are a totoal of 11 projects in the final of BIT 2009 (the full list is available in Russian at сайте http://bit-konkurs.ru/).

The project titled “Development and production of customized microchip for control over mechatronic modules of robotic systems” was a runner-up of the “Business of Innovative Technologies in Siberia 2009” competition where it finished third. The team has also won in the UMNIK program and received a 400 000 rubles grant for two years.

Their trip to Moscow to participate in the final of BIT will be one more step towards success. The final is to be held in mid-June in Moscow as a part of the Moscow Venture Forum program.

We congratulate the team on their qualification to the final and wish them success at the event in Moscow.

Nikolay Gusev:

“The microchip is the first known implementation of an integrated multipurpose motor control algorithm. Putting the approach into effect for industrial production of control systems will be as groundbreaking as was introduction of cell phones into everyday life. After all, the only prototype for such microchip I saw was in the Terminator movie.

Today the development has already attracted attention of defense industry and producers of electronics form various segments. And not only those from Russia.

We can help other developers by “packing” all functional in one microcircuit chip, into one crystal. That helps optimize production and, consequently, reduces the cost”.
